Wildhorse Lake is in a cirque, or "hanging valley"—a depression carved out by a glacier. We tried to hike down to it, but the path was too steep and slippery and we gave up. It's ok, it was a 1000 foot elevation loss—from ~9000 ft to ~8000 ft—so the trip back up would have been very difficult.
